Teeth Whitening

No longer the domain of super models and movie stars, dental whitening is within reach of the average person. Dental Lounge is your specialist general, cosmetic and emergency dentist in Sydney and offers the highest quality teeth whitening Sydney can offer.

Dental teeth whitening products permeate tooth enamel and allow lightening of teeth. Very often the underlying dentine influences the patients "whiteness" or shade change. This will vary with each patient's ethnicity or intrinsic staining of teeth. In some cases where there is deep staining, such as tetracycline staining, patients may need dental veneers to cover the tooth surface.

Dental Lounge provides dental veneers in Sydney clinics to ensure patients get a bright, white smile. At Dental Lounge we use a number of different bleaches to accommodate different patient's needs and sensitivity.

Teeth Whitening Procedures

As a specialist general and cosmetic dentist in Sydney, Dental Lounge offers a range of teeth whitening procedures to give you a brighter, whiter smile.

Advanced Zoom 3 Whitening: It is the whitening procedure as seen on Extreme Makeover and uses Hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is the more-active form of tooth bleach and is broken down into water and oxygen. The effectiveness differs with each individual yet a quality consistent result can be expected every time.

Carbamide Peroxide: Is a more stable form of take home bleach and contains urea. A 10% Carbamide peroxide gel produces around 3.6% Hydrogen peroxide. It allows the bleach to be slow releasing and be thicker to sit in the home trays provided by your dentist.

Common Side Effects of Whitening

  • Transient sensitivity of the teeth to hot or cold foods
  • Irritation of the gingival tissues - usually disappears within minutes to hours

Duration is usually up to 48hours and no longer than 5days. All side effects discontinue when treatment is stopped. Hundreds of articles have been published over the last two decades reporting on the non-toxicity and safety of dental bleaching products.

Sensitive Teeth

Many patients at Dental Lounge arrive suffering from gum and tooth sensitivity, but this doesn't mean they can't whiten their teeth. As an experienced emergency and cosmetic dentist in Sydney, Dental Lounge performs simple teeth whitening procedures via "laser teeth whitening" or take home bleach.

Those with sensitive teeth should follow the steps below to ensure the whitening procedure is most effective.

Treatment of Sensitive teeth during tooth whitening

1st Reduce wear time, reduce applications from 1 hour to ½ an hour.
2nd Reduce frequency of application twice a week to once a week.
3nd Reduce the concentration of bleach or change from hydrogen peroxide to carbamide peroxide (remembering that carbamide peroxide is a less concentrated form)

Treatment of Sensitive teeth after tooth whitening:

1st Use desensitizing toothpaste. These toothpastes use Potassium nitrate to block the dentine tubules and reduce fluid movement until the fluid balance of your teeth is restored.
2nd Fluoride in the take home trays or just wearing the trays themselves (as they act as insulation for your teeth).
