Root canal therapy

Root canal therapy

The good news is this has come a long, long way since Jack Nicholson starred in the 1960 black comedy, "Little Shop of Horrors".

There are several main reasons for requiring Root Canal Therapy. It can come as a result of old, deep or leaking fillings; deep decay or severe grinding.

Another cause is when the nerve dies and with no defence cells inside the nerve chamber, it quickly fills with bacteria that spread to the nearby bone to create an abscess.

Root Canal helps ease the pain quite dramatically.  Your dentist will remove the nerve, clean out the chamber then fill it to prevent further invasion of bacteria. Sometimes a crown is recommended to provide strength and protection for the tooth. Pain relief is provided at the first appointment, and then two follow-up visits complete the process.
