What is it about wisdom teeth?

While some people have no problems at all, others can tell you horror stories. Wisdom teeth can hurt. They can cause infection. They can cause tooth decay and nerve pain.

When the wisdom tooth fails to fully erupt into the arch of teeth, infection can happen. This is known as Pericoronitis. Sometimes, the tooth is crooked, sometimes there's not enough room or time. So you end up with a flap of gum that's a magnet for bacteria and stuff. It's hard to clean, so infection has a ball.

While the condition may be temporary (depending on what your tooth's planning to do next), the tooth may well need to be evicted. The crooked wisdom tooth might also need to be removed, especially if it's aiming towards the cheeks, pushing other teeth out of its way and causing pain!

Wisdom teeth can also be very difficult to clean, making them sitting targets for static plaque that can cause decay, pain and even abscess.

And then there's the very popular impacted wisdom tooth. Actually, there are two types of impaction 1. Mesioangular (tilted forward) and 2. Distoangular (tilted backwards).  So, should you have your wisdom teeth out?  Ask us.
