Fissure Sealants. They can protect your children's permanent back teeth, and this means those lucky kids may never need to have a filling. Fissure sealants are a protective plastic coating that we apply to the chewing surfaces and sides of the teeth most at risk of decay.

The chewing surfaces of back teeth have small grooves or fissures that often extend deep down into the tooth itself. However well you brush, these fissures remain difficult to clean thoroughly. Bacteria and food particles stick in them and eventually cause decay. Despite fluoride in drinking water and toothpaste, these high-risk areas are unprotected against decay. But Fissure sealants completely seal off these grooves, preventing any food particles or bacteria from getting in. It's a simple pain free procedure.
